PlayStation 4 is sold less than 2016, the president of Sony resigns

The PlayStation 4 had a successful year and is on the good track to overcome the overall sales of PlayStation 3, but sales results are expected to fall year-by-year.

At the beginning of the year the sales of the PlayStation 4 console during the last holiday season were down slightly compared to 2016. Not surprisingly, Sony data shows that sales of the console in the third quarter of Sony's fiscal year also dropped from 9.7 million to 9 million sold consoles.

However, although sales of consoles record "weaker" results, Sony's sales of games and contingent sales are growing for the second consecutive year, which was also to be expected as more and more people buy digital game copies through the PS Store. This increase in earnings, among other things, enabled Sony to grow 11.5% year-on-year.

The announcement of these results also contributed to announcing that the current president of the company, Kaz Hirai, will leave that position after the fiscal year, or in the fourth month, and will be replaced by his assistant Kenichiro Yoshida. Hirai will move away from the top position after successful six years but will not abandon the company altogether but will only move to the Sony Board of Directors.

Hirai believes that it is now the right time for that decision, and according to some allegations he is retired because he is tired of constant travel and wants more time to spend with his family. His successor says that he will continue to lead Sony in the pursuit of the current policy with which they hope to achieve long-term growth.
